Hello, Crafty Internet! Today I am sharing a scrapbook layout I created using the Lush Kit from Crafty City. Crafty City is the site for individual products and the kits are listed here. This is my first time purchasing a kit from this company and all I can say is wow! This kit is amazing. The price was very reasonable for what you get and they offer free shipping. Free shipping makes me happy. Actually, I received a shipment notice not long after I placed the order. it is nice to see such a quick turn around. There are some companies out there who tell you up front it might be a week before your order even ships after purchase. Archana clearly understands crafters do not like to wait for their goodies.
Archana Joshi is the owner of this company and we connected on Facebook. I had never heard of Crafty City or the kits Archana puts together until Facebook happened. I am very impressed with the store and the kits. Archana has her stuff together and she clearly knows what she’s doing.
Here’s the kit:
I hope Archana doesn’t mind, but I snagged this image from her site. I couldn’t get a good picture of the products on my own. Stupid camera and my inability to stage photos. She also has a video where she goes through the contents of the kit. This kit included some great chipboard pieces, ephemera, and some butterfly dies that are lovely. The papers are quality which means they are thick cardstock that will hold up to use with mediums. She included several lengths of lace, ribbon, and so many flowers. The flowers really do make the kit great. They are a variety of sizes and the colors matched perfectly with the other contents of the kit.
So this is the first project I made with it:
That chubby baby is my adorable self at 18 months old and I was fabulous even then.
So to create this layout I started off by making tears on the top and the side of the paper and adding lace underneath. I distressed all the edges with my Ranger distress tool and then used my Prima edger in bark and in black to color the edges and add some of a distressed look. I layered some of the ephemera pieces under the photo to create some interest and then created a little spray of the rose buds. The heart gem came from my stash. I thought it was too cute not to use. I fussy cut the butterflies from the sheet included in the kit.
When I asked The Hubs what he thought of the layout, he mentioned the butterflies might not be the right color. I argued I wanted the color for contrast and then he agreed it worked. Maybe I shouldn’t ask his opinion on scrapbooking. He’s never created a layout and I’ve done at least five so clearly I am the expert here.
