My Creative Scrapbook – February Kit

Hello, Crafty Internet! Today I share with you a project I created using the February Kit from My Creative Scrapbook. As always, the Limited Edition kit is fabulous with lots of fun stuff to play with.

I think my favorite thing in this month’s kit are the flowers. They are gorgeous. The papers and sticker sheet come from Graphic45. I don’t have a lot of experience with this company, but what I have had has been lovely. The theme of this kit seems to be fairy-tales and faeries. There are a lot of greens and purples used and some light pinks, light oranges and so on. I decided to make a mixed media / home decor type project.

I have had this frame from Tim Holtz in my stash for a long time. It was a find from Tuesday Morning.

After gluing down the frame to the backing, I covered it in gesso. I wasn’t sure what I would do at this point. All that green and purple had my brain working overtime to figure it out. Purples and greens are not colors I use often. Nothing against them; I just lean more towards blues. They are a little out of my comfort zone.

I used some acrylic paint to cover the gesso, added some cheese cloth to add some texture to the back. The stencil included in the kit was begging to be used so I used some texture paste to add even more texture to the background. I splattered black and white acrylic paint over everything once it was dry and sealed it with matte medium.

The print I cut from one of the papers, the chipboard I had in my stash. I covered it in gesso after sticking it to the panel. The flowers were easy to arrange and the little believe at the top came from the sticker sheet. I should have stopped here. I should have looked at it and said, “It’s enough.”

But no….

Here is where we ended up. I love the look of micro beads and art stones on my projects and normally I can restrain myself. I do not know what happened to me when I started adding the beads and stones. My head turned off, the crafty gods left me and when I finally came back to myself…this had happened. If I had this project to do over, I would only apply a little bit of the beads and stones to the flowers. I would not have gone up the chains with it.

And over the top of the panel.

Or the bottom…

It’s not bad. It’s not great either, in my opinion. It is busy and maybe that’s why it tweaks my brain. Clean and simple is my happy place and this is outside of that happy little bubble I like to be in. I am trying to stretch myself more in my crafting and learn more techniques and how to put them together. The thing about this hobby is you can never learn everything. When you think you’ve seen it all, something new shows up and you must know how to do that or you cannot live with yourself.

That’s how it is for me anyway.
